Lemongrass tea is something that I order as a drink when I eat out in a Vietnamese restaurant. It’s such a shame that I never made this drink at home in earlier life as once we had a few bushes of lemongrass in our front yard. I thought lemongrass was just another ingredient for Asian cooking. But some Vietnamese restaurant that I had dine in could serve it well. There was once in a hotel where they used lemon grass as aroma therapy, it was more like a mosquito repellent, that was what my senses said.
An article in eHow.com also reveals the healing value of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citrates) . This Asian native herb is used in traditional South American folk medicine. It can help control muscle spasms, reduce fevers and manage nervous and gastrointestinal disorders. It is also used as an antiseptic in India. A 1997 scientific study published in the “Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences” found that lemongrass helped to fight leukemia cells in mice and humans, according to Drugs.com. (eHow)
