Gulai Ikan

Makes 4 small fishes

Fish are in season and they are cheap in the market so I bought a bunch. I felt like making gulai, a Padang style curry so I did a gulai ikan.  It wasn’t that difficult, all you have to do is clean the fish and fry it dry then cook them further in the curry marinate.  This recipe is great, it’s easy and it taste very good with hot rice, Asian or Basmati. If you love curry, then make sure you have enough rice to add some more..

4 small-medium fish
½ kefir lime juice
1 tsp salt
200 ml coconut milk
1 lemon grass
1 tumeric leaf
3 kefir lime leaves
2 cm galangal
2 cm ginger
2 big green chili
½ small onion
3 garlic cloves
2 tsp chili paste
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp salt
⅓ cup water

How to prepare:

-clean the fish and cut the body thinly

-dilute the kefir lime juice and salt and spread on the fish body not more than 15 minutes
-drain the fish and fry it dry, set aside
-make the garlic, onion, and ginger into a paste
-cut the lemongrass and turmeric leaf into 3 parts, set aside
-cut the green chili into halves but keep the stem
-fry the garlic paste until fragrant
-add the chili paste
-add the coconut milk and water
-add all the remaining ingredients except for the fishes
-stir gently until it is evenly cooked
-add the fish and mix well
