Goat Meat Sate

Sate Kambing
Serves 3

“Sate Kambing”, sate of goat meat is one of Indonesian favorite dish. These sate’s are sold in night stalls and it uses sweet soy sauce relish. Goat meat are not available here in Sendai so I substitute it with lambs meat. To tenderize the meat, I added starch in the marinate. The sate taste best with shredded cabbage and hot rice. If you have high blood pressure, this dish is not recommended. I tried substituting shallots with onions but shallot is better suited for this dish.

The sate:
500 gr lambs meat, cut into dices
5 lime leaves, cut into long pieces
7 shallots, cut into thin slices
1/2 tbs pepper
1 cup sweet soy sauce
1 tbs lime juice
1 tbs starch
sate sticks

How to prepare:
-in a bowl, add all the ingredients except for sate sticks and blend well
-leave it for 30 minute to one hour
-place the meat on sticks and grill evenly on both side, set aside

Sambal Kecap
see recipe here

Side Dish
1/4 cabbage, shredded
1 tomato, cut into wedges
2 tbs fried shallots

How to serve:
-in a plate decorate it with cabbage on the bottom and tomato on the side
-add the goat sate on top of the cabbage
-add the sambal kecap on top of the sate
-sprinkle fried shallots on top of the sate

  1. That’s quite an interesting filter on the photo, bit distracting for food though. I’ve never made goat but we did find it very popular in Morocco during our trip a year ago. The flavours sound lovely and warming in this dish.
