Lontong Sayur

Saturday and Sunday morning is jogging time for Indonesian. Some of the main road will have car free day so you will have a more ‘cleaner’ air than weekdays. It’s great, it’s healthy, it makes you sweat HOWEVER unlike the diet in western countries that consume bread or cereals or yoghurt or fruits that will likely not make you fat, our diet is full of carb from breakfast to dinner. So, the usual habit for most of the Indonesian is to eat bubur ayam or lontong sayur. There are many variants of lontong sayur and this recipe is one of them. For the lontong recipe click here. Green beans in coconut milk
150 gr green beans, slice into thin pieces
100 gr bamboo shoots, clean the white secretion, wash cut into thin long slices
200 ml coconut milk
3 garlic cloves
1/2 small onion
3 bay leaves
2 cm galangal
1 tsp terasi/shrimp paste
3 long red chili
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar

How to prepare:
-cut the garlic cloves, onion, galangal and red long chili into very thin slices, set aside
-heat pan with light oil and saute the shrimp paste
-add garlic, onion and long chili, saute until fragrant
-add the coconut milk
-add the bamboo shoots and long green beans
-add salt and sugar

Ayam Kecap
200 gr boneless chicken, diced
1 small onion, chop into thin slices
2 garlic, crush with the side of your knife, the cut into small pieces
2 cherry tomatoes, mashed
1 cm ginger, smack with something heavy
1/3 cup sweet soy sauce
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
a dash of pepper

How to prepare:
-heat pan with some oil, saute garlic and onion
-add the chicken and stir fry until 3/4 cooked
-add ginger, sweet soy sauce, salt, sugar and pepper
-add the mashed tomatoes
-stir well
