Grilled Squid

Grilled Squid in Japanese sauce

Serves 2

Another Indonesian all time favorite seafood stall menu is grilled squid. This is a perfect menu for the Novice Gardener Friday Fiesta . The one thing that I just knew is that the method they prepared it was inspired from Japanese cooking with additional Indonesian favorite ingredients such as lime, kecap and honey. This is so addictive and great for out door barbecue party. How is the weather down there? Here we are having spring and winter switching in one day but the bulbs are already out so Spring is just around the corner.

300 gr already cut squid, add in wooden sticks
1/2 cup Japanese soy sauce
3 tbs kecap/Indonesian sweet soy sauce
1 tbs sugar
1 tbs honey
1 tbs lime juice

How to prepare:
-in a large flat pan add the Japanese soy sauce, kecap, sugar and honey
-let it boil and semi caramelized, the add the lime juice
-add the squid and cook for 10 minutes
-take out and grill the squid
-take some remains from the sauce and drench to the squid once in a while

  1. For someone who doesn’t like fish all that much, strangely I love squids, especially fried calamari. This one looks really yummy, too. As soon as the weather warms up, I’ll fire up the grill and give these babies a try. Actually it’s gotten nice right now, 60 degrees, so can’t complain. I’m in my skirt, woohoo! 🙂
